A new MFR DVD for the therapist and patient
The MFR DVD
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a physical therapy used to resolve pain and dysfunction within the human body.
Fascia is a 3D network that runs without interruption from head to toe. Like muscle, fascia has the ability to contract and relax, but unlike muscle, fascial restrictions creep insidiously throughout the body, crushing sensitive structures and affecting musculoskeletal function. Fascial restrictions don't show up on regular scans or X-rays.
What the DVD includes
This is an exciting and thought provoking DVD for both patient and therapist offering valuable information regarding the function and dysfunction of the fascial network and how, when it becomes damaged, affects health. The DVD focuses on the importance of treating the fascial network, which is a different approach and felt sense to that of treating muscles.
This DVD is presented by Ruth Duncan advanced myofascial therapist and senior lecturer for MFR UK's workshops.
In the DVD Ruth offers ideas for evaluating and assessing the body as well as demonstrating effective and easy to use fascial techniques for the therapist. The techniques also provide information for the patient allowing them to see and understand approaches and techniques that may be used in their treatment.
Techniques
-
assessment approaches to be used on the massage treatment table including palpatory, rocking and stretch
- the cross hand release technique which is the most valuable, adaptive and is considered the core element of the modern form of MFR. This technique can be used anywhere on the body and Ruth demonstrates various hand positions for effective treatment
- longitudinal plane releases, arm and leg pulls, that can be used for evaluatory/assessment approaches as well as an effective way to treat the arms and legs as well as using them as levers to access the fascial network elsewhere in the body
- seated shoulder approaches to access tight and tender muscles followed by cross hand release techniques for the cervical spine and pectoralis area.

What people are saying about this DVD.
John F. Barnes, PT has developed a unique treatment of the body's connective tissue, or fascia, termed myofascial release, that emphasizes the importance of unimpeded energy flow over the entire fascial matrix as central to homeostasis and healing.
Ruth Duncan, a master myofascial release practitioner and teacher who has studied with John Barnes, presents this DVD which artfully and clearly demonstrates first the nature and location of fascial restrictions, and then brilliantly reveals how a myofascial release therapist releases these restrictions to relieve pain and to facilitate energy flow over the fascial matrix, thus assisting the entire body /mind to heal.
